After a crazy week of immigration issues and travels, Team WMR Off-Road has a successful weekend
Off-Road Viking Picture
Team WMR KTM Off Road XC1 rider Rory Mead had to leave the US last week due to Immigration rules and wasn't even sure if he was going to be able to compete in this past weekend's Indiana GNCC. Team WMR Off-Road had his bike ready to go in Indiana hoping for the best and that he would be able keep or improve on his 4th place overall standings.
We got the word from Rory on Saturday morning that he made it into the states and would be at the track Sunday morning ready to ride. After all the stress he went through during the week, all his travels and jet-lag, nobody was expecting anything exceptional from the Kiwi. We were all just looking for points to keep his 4th place standings in the championship.
Rory surprised everyone when he maintained a top 5 position for most of the race. He put his head down and managed to finish a very respectable 6th place finish considering that he was racing with minimal sleep and jet-lag. This allowed Rory to gain more points on Mullins in the championship hunt after Mullins had a rough day.
"I was just so happy just to be back in the states without any problems, and then to be able to make it to the track for Sunday was more than i expected. I was so exhausted from all the traveling, I just wanted to put in some good laps and salvage some points." Mead goes on to say, "I was able to stay in the top 3 for most of the day but just started to fade towards the end. I can’t wait for another technical track in West Virginia."
Other exceptional rides from the WMR KTM Off-Road team came from Steven Squire who finished in the top ten after struggling adapting to the XC1 class. In addition Team WMR KTM Off-Road Open A rider Chris Douglas was leading most of the race and finished an impressive 2nd place and 16th overall.
