Unstoppable Gorrior

Round eleven of the J Day Offroad series headed north for the MX-207 GP, where the weather was perfect leading up to the event, except the torrential rains the night before. The track crew as well as series promoter put in a lot of last minute touches to make the track race ready for all the riders. The track featured fresh cut woods sections that where challenging yet spectator friendly. Also featured was the infamous MX-207 motocross track complete with fast corners, easy going jumps, and endless line choices. With the track of the year set up and a stacked pro class on the line, the air was charged with excitement.

Moto one started with Josh Cennamo grabbing the holeshot with cousin Jon Girroir in tow. The two battled the entire first lap with Jon Girroir showing Josh Cennamo his wheel many times. On the motocross track on lap two, Jon went to the inside in the rhythm section and with the preferred line took the lead away from Josh. Jon Girroir continue to put down lap times no one could touch, building a 40 second gap on second place Nate Kanney. Kanney started middle of the pack and worked his way through New England’s best riders to take a very hard-earned second place. Third place went to Josh Cennamo who fought off the hard charging duo of Adam Bonneur and Drew Torrance. Adam Bonneur started near the rear of the pack and worked his way from tenth at the start to fourth place but not without a hand full of amazing battles on the track. Halfway through the moto, Bonneur and Torrance caught each other leading to an incredible three-lap battle to the finish where Drew Torrance went down on the last lap leaving the door open for Adam Bonneur to take advantage; fifth place went go to Drew Torrance.

    In between motos, the sun came out and dried up the track creating conditions for the best moto of the year. With perfect dirt, endless line choices, and a stacked pro class the riders were ready to do battle, when the flag dropped it was Jon Girroir who grabbed the STS Motorsports Holeshot Award. Jon Girroir led the first lap while Jared Boothroyd and Robby Marshall were both within striking distance. By lap two, Robby Marshall was all over Jon Girroir and both were riding on the ragged edge. Marshall made the pass and took over the lead on lap two and rode the next five laps out front but not without constant pressure from Girroir.  Marshall held onto win the moto, while Girroir finished just three seconds back. Third place went to Nate Kanney who had a better start in this moto and worked his way up into the fourth place by the end of lap one and then quickly made the pass on Kyle Hangos to take over the third position.  Despite his blistering lap times, Nate Kanney could not catch the lead pack. Kanney finished 15 seconds back from the leaders, about the same as the end of the first lap. Adam Bonneur rode consistently fast to finish a very respectable fourth place. Fifth place went to Josh Cennamo who passed Chris Douglas in the final turns of the moto.

    Round Eleven saw every type of rider from national motocross riders Robby Marshall and Jared Boothroyd, to top GNCC riders Nate Kanney, Adam Bonneur, and Chris Douglas, but the J Day Offroad local riders showed the East coast’s top riders how much talent we have locally in the series. Jon Girroir was challenged and beat in moto two by Robby Marshall but the two-moto format and the moto one win, allowed Jon Girroir to take his ninth overall victory of the year!
