One of the fastest growing handlebar companies in the industry, Fasst Co has established themselves with multiple products including Flexx bars, their Brake Clevis and Spoke Torque Wrench. The newest addition to the Fasst Co. family, Jason Parsons, is fresh out of college with an abundance of book smarts and racing knowledge. We sat down with Parsons for a get-to-know interview and to pick his brain and see if he's been doing his homework.
You've gone from Fasst Co. customer to employee. Tell us about your background in the racing industry...
Jason Parsons: I pretty much just grew up racing, I always kind of knew what companies wanted out of their riders and when I started running Fasst Co. products and got to know them, we all just clicked because I knew what they wanted from me, it's been an awesome transition.
So what was/is it about Flexx Bars that has you convinced at a racer?
Riding with the bars for the first time is what sold me. I was eerie to try them because they were different from a traditional handlebar, but after 5 laps around the Motocross track with them, I realized what an assett they really were and how comfortable they made me feel on the bike. I find myself hitting obstacles harder because I have that extra cushion.
Now as an ambassador for the brand, what makes Flexx bars better than any of the competition?
From A-Z we do everything we can to make sure we're doing the best in every category. From building the bars to the customer service, to warranty issues, to rider support and so on. There's so many people within the company that all put their heart and soul into it and I think the most special thing is the comaraderie. Every one that works for Fasst Co is a racer at heart, that's what we do, we're all spread across the Southwest racing every weekend and I think that's what makes us better than the competition. We're gonna be lining up next to the riders that run our product on the weekend and that allows the riders to really connect with us on a different level.
Aside from Flexx Bars, what are a few other products under the Fasst Co house?
Probably our most influencial product is our Spoke Torque Wrench, a lot of top factory SX and MX teams use it. Aside from that we have our Brake Clevis' and our Rear Brake Return Spring, which are designed to take the slop out of the rear brake allowing a more controlled feel. Then we also have little things like our vibration inserts for Flexx Handlebars, rim lock spacers, hour meter mounts and much more.
What's a typical week like in the life of a Fasst Co Rider Rep?
Lots of emails. Lot's of time behind a computer! I usually knock out some emails in the mornings then try and squeeze in some riding time or some cycling and then right back to the computer for more emails and rider support issues. During the weeks it's a lot of phone calls and emails, but come time for the weekend my job takes me to the track to hang out with the family of off-road racing, so I can't complain!
Although you are a full-time employee, your still a full-time racer?
I try to be. Racing took a back seat to school so I'm used to doing both. Once I got my AS in Business, Cole gave me an awesome job opportunity. I try to be a full time racer, but when I wake up in the mornings, Fasst Company is the first thing that comes to mind. I still train and ride and all that, but in order to make sure Cole, Tidwell, and Avery don't regret giving me this opportunity, I make sure the work is done before play.
That's impressive considering you took 2nd in Pro 2 this weekend at WORCS?
I did! It was my 2nd WORCS back from an ACL Reconstruction, so it was nice to be able to mix it up with those guys again!
So who would you like to thank!
First and foremost, my family. My mom, dad, brother, Ryan Rowell, Meg and my step mom have been such a big part of my racing and all the credit goes to them, without them I honestly wouldn't be racing. Everyone at Fasst Company, it's less like a job and more like an extended family, I can't thank them all enough. All my sponsors that make the racing possible and support me with everything they can, The Flower Shoppe, John Burr Cycles, Bob, Diane and Phil at Precision Concepts for making my suspension absolutely incredible, Von Zipper, One Industries Gear, Goolsby Motorsports, Dirt Tricks, Factory Backing, FMF, Heritage Physical Therapy for helping me get back on the bike and of course Vurb Offroad for making sure I have new stuff to read on the daily! I appreciate all of the help so much, you guys are all awesome!! Thank you!
